Fall Toss Off 2024

10/24/24 – What an end to a long, dry summer! Last night we had our 16th annual Fall Toss Off tournament of champions. The weather was perfect for some fall cornhole. We had six very competitive teams that were pretty well balanced. Every team had a shot to win the tournament. Even those that don’t play regularly, but have the audacity to show up for tournaments thought they could win. The Donovan/George team prevaled by not losing a single game. Looks like George has won the last three tournaments. Three peat! Is a four peat possible?

No shicks but plenty of shots!

Thanks again to the facilities manager for restoring the grass that had been damaged due to hot, dry weather and regular foot traffic. The sod is looking good. Outstanding job! Everyone in the group truly appreciates your dedication and countless hours of effort in maintaining the field in excellent condition.

Can’t wait for the Christmas Spectacular! Currently scheduled for December 19th.

We have way too much fun on Thursdays!

16th Anniversary Tournament of Champions

6/13/24 – Sweet 16!

Last night we had our annual Tournament of Champions Sweet 16 competition. Hard to believe we’ve been playing cornhole every Thursday evening for 16 years! We had six teams, a bit light since some people seem to think there are other things to do in life besides play cornhole. I can’t imagine.

Dirc and Wally were the projected favorites but lost the first game and had to work their way back from the losers bracket. Ultimately, Mark and George defeated them for the prizes—some mighty fine Bardstown Bourbon!

New 16th anniversary ball caps were also distributed, designed by Steve Hensley at Egelston Maynard. Very stylish!

During the evening, we heard several coyotes howling just over the fence. They seemed very close and kind of alarmed us, but we kept playing despite the potential threat. Fortunately they turned out to be a local mutant breed called ICOtec gc300. Harmless but very annoying. They are safely locked away so they won’t annoy anyone ever again.

We have way too much fun on Thursdays!

Spring Fling 2024

4/19/24 – After 3 weeks of rainy Thursday’s we had one of the nicest days for our annual Spring Fling corn hole tournament, 75 degrees and 37% humidity. We had brand new bags, courtesy of the facilities manager, but the decision was made not to use them because they were fast and the lower skilled players would have a hard time scoring with them. So we used the old, worn out, broken in, floppy bags that practically slither into the holes on their own.

There were 8 teams just burning to win. We have never before had this level of competitive furor! Mike Kessling and I battled it out with Brad Bardo and Zach Hurt who came up from the losers bracket to challenge us, but lost the 2nd game in a hot 2 point match. Zach was on fire but it just wasn’t enough. Better luck next time, guys. Thanks to everyone who cheered for Brad, it really made him feel better about himself. He’s really quite fragile. Congratulations to Mike; this was a first-time tourney win for him, and my first since the Fall Toss Off of 2021.

Also thanks to the facilities manager for restoring the grass which had been destroyed in the fall from the hot dry weather and weekly foot traffic. Excellent work. Everyone in the group really appreciates your countless hours of hard work keeping the field in top condition.

Up next – 16th Anniversary Tournament of Champions; with new bags.

We have way too much fun on Thursdays!

Last minute update…shout out to Steve Hensley for recovering from his surgery and throwing after a long hiatus. El Diablo is back…almost.

Christmas 2023

12/7/23 – We had the biggest crowd ever for our annual Christmas Beer Exchange and Cornhole Extravaganza at the JLC corn dome! Last year we had a smaller crowd due to Covid, but this year we had 10 teams! The evening was super fun with many hotly contested, close matches. Eric played like he was possessed. Bryan and his dad teamed up as father and son which was nice for everyone else. Jeff won the ugly sweater contest and the ugly….

Dirc and Mark were the repeat winners, which makes it easy for them to recycle the prizes. Someone needs to break this dynasty!

Thanks to JLC for hosting. I’m washing the factory grease off the bags tomorrow. I hope I don’t ruin the washer. I bet Stanley Steemer could scrub those floors for a good price!

Stranger Things

11/2/23 – Strange evening. We had 2 toe tags ( 8 bags off the board) at once. It’s probably happened before but was not documented. Check the photo. Not one bag on the board: 0 – 0 = 0. No names. Psst – one of them was a recent tournament winner. Check the last post.

Then we had a simultaneous 15-0, 0-15 set of scores resulting in everyone taking a shot!

Then a Shicking! Michael and Matthew, just around the corner from each other. How sweet.

I have a feeling the can is going to be residing in one of those locations quite a bit.

P.S. – A bit of a legal squabble occurred. Mark Schweitzer and I were close to completing a Shicking involving the new guy (Matthew), I think it was like 19 or 20 to 0, and Mark very obviously threw the game so Matthew wouldn’t be Shicked. I think he felt sorry for him. Pitiful. This may have go to a vote to decide his fate. Could mean a suspension or perhaps bringing the Fireball one night.

First Time Winner

10/26/23 – We had our Fall Toss Off at Dirc’s this year since I was traveling and not sure I’d make it back in time. But I made it just in time to play! We had the biggest crowd ever and ran 3 sets of boards. We did our usual blind draw, double elimination, with 8 teams. Mark and Dan O. came out of the losers bracket to beat Dirc and Bryan twice. Mark sunk a beautiful airmail to cap it off for a very exciting win. A first time tournament win for Mark! Congratulations.

Great ending to the fall season guys. Thanks to all. Notably absent once again – Steve Hensley.

15 Years and Going Strong!

6/8/23 – We had an amazing 15th Anniversary Tournament of Champions! Eight teams battled it out in double elimination for the prizes. Dirc and Dan O beat Wally and George in the hotly contested final for the big win. This was a first time tournament win for Dan O ( congratulations ) and the umpteenth time for Dirc. He always draws great partners.

After the tournament we got on a roll and played til midnight! Another rough Friday for us.

Hens got us some great mock jersey shirts from EGELSTON-MAYNARD where he works and they seemed to help everyone play much better. Awesome job Steve!

Thanks to Dirc for the delicious smoked chicken wings and thanks to DJ B. K. for the awesome playlist.

Hard to believe it’s been 15 years! It’s gone by so fast. We’ve aged and our lives have changed but we are still at it and don’t ever expect to stop! We are just having too much fun.

Spring Fling 2023

5/18/23 – We had a fun Spring Fling (like always) with 7 hot teams competing for the coveted prizes (two old bottles of bourbon from the back of Miller’s cabinet that he knew he would never drink). Dirc and Donovan pushed through some hard fought battles and came out the winners. After the redraw for the after tournament fun play, Wally and Eric got Shicked and will be getting the cans. Thanks to Hens for bringing mass quantities of beer for everyone. Nick we really liked your business casual attire. Stepping up the game!

Sure missed the Yucca – just sayin…
